There are a limited number of Burro Teams that will be confirmed at BurroFest. Submitting this form does not guarantee a space at the event until confirmed by the event manager.

There are two ways Burro Teams can participate in this year’s BurroFest.

  • Obstacle Course Teams
  • Ambassador Burro Teams

Obstacle Course Teams

Approved Burro Teams will be paired with animal artists. Both Artist and Burro are encouraged to connect prior to the event to allow both the artist and their model to work together. Meetings are to be coordinated between artists and burro team.

The event day begins with the Grand Entry and intro to the Burro Teams. This year’s Obstacle Course and Costume theme will be BurrOlympics to celebrate the Summer 2024 Olympics. Costumes are encouraged to tied to this theme and worn for the entirety of the event, adding to the fun and creative flair of the event.

All Burros registered under Burro Team Competitors are expected to run the obstacle course and be familiar with the course scenario, well-trained, and familiar with crowds. Burros will not be required to carry a pack as part of the course. Burros must only be held and led at all times by their handler and/or handler assistant. Dogs on leashes will most likely attend the event. We ask you to stay aware and provide distance boundaries for your burros when needed.

Obstacles MAY include:

  • Crossings of various types (i.e., water, slopes, bridges, deadfall, etc.);
  • Approaching and navigating past or through unfamiliar objects or sounds (i.e., wildlife, boulders, screens / blinds, bulky equipment, noisy machinery, etc.);
  • Traditional burro work (i.e., transporting, dragging, rendering aid, etc.); and
  • Certain skills required to accomplish such work (backing through obstacles, loading, standing tied, etc.)

Four (4) possible awards are up for grabs: Best Ass, Last Ass, Best Costume and Best of BurroFest.

Registration includes:

  • Partnering with an animal artist
  • Participation in the Obstacle Course
  • Opportunity to win one of several awards

Burro Ambassador Teams

Our Burro Ambassador Teams will circulate during the event to allow spectators photo ops and a chance to pet a burro.

Burro Ambassadors need to be gentle, well-trained, crowd-friendly, and comfortable mingling with all ages, including young children. Burros must only be held and led at all times by their handler and/or handler assistant.

Dogs on leashes will most likely attend the event. We ask you stay aware and provide distance boundaries for your burros when needed.

    Our policy is NO REFUNDS. The reason for this is that most of the work (and expense) of putting on this event occurs well before the actual event. The Mancos Creative District is a 501(c)3 non-profit and we ask that, should you need to withdraw from the event, you consider your participation fee as a charitable donation which will help the MCD recover some costs of hosting the event as well as help us make BurroFest sustainable over the long term. Thank you.
